Case Study
Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica
In July of 2018, EfficiencyOne Services (E1S) partnered with Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) to respond to an RFP issued by the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica (PCJ) for a consultancy to conduct a training needs assessment in equipment and facilities maintenance and provide relevant energy efficiency training for staff of 35 pubic sector facilities which will be receiving energy efficiency and renewable energy retrofits.
During the team’s first visit to Jamaica in March of 2019, they accessed the buildings to determine what types of technologies would work best. They then developed a training manual and workshop materials before returning to Jamaica in August to deliver four two-day training sessions that equipped 272 employees from 35 hospitals, schools and government buildings with skills to reduce energy consumption in their facilities.
The project was a success, with all deliverables completed two months ahead of the original schedule. The NSCC and E1S partnership merges our diverse but complementary skill sets. NSCC’s proven training abilities and renewable energy systems expertise were a perfect match with E1S’s specializations in energy efficiency and capacity building.
The project was funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the European Union – Caribbean Investment Facility (EU-CIF).
